Donnie Lorett Shurtz, 83, of Waltonville, IL went to be with the Lord Saturday morning August 1, 2020 at 6:30 A.M. in White Oaks Nursing Home. She was born August 13, 1936 in Ripley, MS to Guy and Ethel (Little) Roberts. She married John David Shurtz on October 24, 1954 at the home of John’s parents Nelson & Jewell McCormack in Scheller, IL.

Donnie’s greatest love was her family. She was a wonderful cook, cake maker and seamstress. She made several frilly dresses for her granddaughters. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, IL. She served as Church Secretary for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, sons David Shurtz & wife Nancy of Christopher, IL, Bruce Shurtz & wife Sandra of Scheller, IL. Granddaughters Rachael Thornquest & husband Dru of Mt. Vernon, IL Sarah Ranzinger & husband Ben of West, Texas. Charla Fulkerson of Scheller, IL. Elizabeth Patalano of Herrin, IL. Great-grandchildren Jameson Thornquest, Reeve Sanders and Arwyn Ranzinger. Frankie III (Buster) & Emma Patalano. Sisters: Jamie Cozzens, Lake Ozark, MO Mildred Jackson in Sun City, Arizona and several nieces & nephews.

Donnie is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Kevin Sanders, sisters Jonnie Feagins, Bonnie Graham, Bobby (Kay) Catherine Chase, Brother in laws: Don Graham, Ron Cozzens and Ron Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 7th at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with Bro. David Shores & Bro. Craig Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Dryden Cemetery in Scheller, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.  We are limited to 50 people in the building at a time. If you are planning on attending the services it is asked that you practice social distancing and that you wear a mask.
