Robbie E. “Shady” Hayes was found guilty of two counts Class X felony armed violence. Each count is punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, Hayes was armed with a knife when he was involved in an altercation at the Bluford American Legion.

The victim in the incident was airlifted from a Mt. Vernon hospital to a St. Louis area hospital where he had surgery on a wound to his neck.

Hayes had been free on $25,000 cash bond since August 2018. That bond was revoked following the jury’s guilty verdict, and Hayes was taken into custody to await sentencing. A status hearing on sentencing is scheduled for August 1.

Hayes has a history of criminal violence, including a 2000 conviction in Wayne County for armed violence.
