WASHINGTON COUNTY — A Washington County jury this week found a 69-year-old Wamac man not guilty on all counts of child sex offenses.

Henry Michael Wolenhaupt was charged in 2018 with two counts Class 1 criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18 and three counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18.

Wolenhaupt had remained in the Washington County Jail since his arrest in August 2018 with bail set at $200,000.

The case remained idle for months as Wolenhaupt searched for an attorney to represent him in the case but the court ultimately appointed Dennis Hatch to represent him as a public defender.

The jury in the trial was seated Tuesday and after hearing arguments from prosecutors and defense counsel on Wednesday they returned their not guilty verdict.
