CENTRALIA — A rural Centralia man is accused of aggressively coming toward a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy following his arrest for aggravated assault.

41-year-old Jason Hoffman had reportedly been acting strangely at his home on Old Salem Road and had to be tased three times by deputies before he was taken into custody. The call to authorities was made by a family member who claimed that Hoffman was preparing to leave with a child in a vehicle.

When deputies responded, they told Hoffman he could not leave with the child. Allegedly Hoffman walked aggressively towards the deputy and was eventually tased. He fell to the ground but was reportedly able to get back up resulting in a second and third tasing before the deputy could handcuff the subject.

Hoffman is also accused of threatening the life of the deputy. Illinois State Police assisted the jail in getting Hoffman inside. Final charges are pending. Hoffman had also reportedly been hitting a propane tank with a log and had been throwing items at passing vehicles at the home.

Marion County EMS and Kell Fire had also responded to the scene.
