A Carterville man was arrested Sunday morning after Carterville Police responded to the 700 block of Laclede Avenue regarding a report of a main with a gun.

When officers arrived to the scene just before 7:10 a.m., they encountered a man wearing a green army helmet and a ballistic vest who was armed with an AR-15 brand rifle.

The man, later identified as 23-year-old Gregory Martin of Carterville, was taken into custody without incident.

Martin was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, unlawful use of body armor, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
