MOUNT VERNON — A 26-year-old Royalton man is in the Jefferson County Jail after he was arrested by Mt. Vernon police on multiple charges of motor vehicle theft and burglary.

Jonathon L. Reed was arrested Wednesday after GPS tracking from a stolen 2009 Saturn Aura led officers to an Ellis Drive apartment complex where they found the vehicle and Reed – the person who allegedly drove the vehicle.

Reed was taken into custody and transported to the police department to be interviewed by detectives.

After the interview was concluded Reed was charged with five felonies including for the January 3rd theft of the Saturn Aura, a January 3 attempted residential burglary in the 1000 block of South 23rd Street in Mt. Vernon, the January 1 theft of and burglary from a 2005 Pontiac G6 from the 2300 block of Perkins Avenue, and a June 14, 2017, theft of a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass from the 300 block of South Second Street.

Reed is being held in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
