Mount Vernon, like many cities, is always trying to grow and create jobs as well as provide opportunities to its citizens. The City Council heard a new opportunity while at their monthly meeting Monday night from Williamson County Commissioner in Marion, Brent Gentry.

Gentry, who helped bring a new business to Marion in 2010 urged the council to meet the owner and learn about not only the business, but potentially opening a location in Mount Vernon.

Qiu (Q) owns 6 Fujiyama restaurants across the southern Illinois area and Gentry urged the council to adopt his same ideology that helped to bring one of those locations to his service area.

The council welcomed the idea and say they are looking forward to potentially doing business with Qiu (Q) and Fujiyama.

The council also approved the seeking of bids for new pits, telemetry, altitude valves and SCADA system for water towers. A motion was made and approved by the council to seek bids for renovation/repair of the Eagle Court water tank as well.
