SALEM — A 31-year-old Flora man is back in custody and facing additional charges after he reportedly escaped in Salem from an ambulance transporting from a Mt. Vernon area hospital to the Clay County Jail.

Alan Ksiazkiewicz reportedly jumped from a Clay County ambulance Friday night at Main and Missouri in Salem and ran from the scene.

Police responded and eventually spotted Ksiazkiwicz hiding behind bushes near the Salem Post Office. Rather than complying with police orders, he again took off running but was ultimately apprehended behind La Cocina Restaurant on West Main.

He was taken to the Marion County Jail on a charge of resisting a peace officer. He was released to the custody of Clay County authorities and given a notice to appear.

Ksiazkiewicz was being held in the Clay County Jail on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, domestic battery, and resisting arrest. He was being transported to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition when he jumped from the ambulance.

He was reportedly barefoot at the time, wearing orange gym shorts and now shirt. Entry wounds were still visible from the tazer probes used during his initial arrest in Clay County.
