MT. VERNON — An Energy man will now have his blood sample tested for marijuana after a ruling in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday.

25-year-old Cole Stevens is suspected of having been under the influence during a fatal traffic crash on Interstate 57 on June 11 that killed 18-year-old Emma Caserotti and injured 18-year-old Tristen Sharp.

Stevens faces one misdemeanor count of DUI and two felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence in connection with the crash. Stevens is already accused of having had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash near Big Muddy Correctional Center in Ina.

Following the accident Stevens had two blood samples taken. One was at the hospital after the crash and another was drawn as part of a DUI investigation. The second blood sample is what will be tested for marijuana. Stevens also submitted a urine sample which tested positive for cocaine.

Stevens will have a pre-trial status hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 and is still being held in the Jefferson County Justice Center on $250,000 bond.
