Oscar Nolan McKowen was born June 4, 1934 to George Oscar and Lela (Smith) McKowen in Mount Vernon, Illinois. As a youth he worked in his father’s machine shop. His adult life consisted of working as a machinist/tool and diemaker for Drivlok Machine Corp. (Sycamore, Illinois); General Radiator (Mount Vernon, Illinois); Airtex (Fairfield, Illinois); and retiring from Joy Mining (Mount Vernon, Illinois). for 45 years, he was a union member with I.A.M. (Machinist Union); U.A.W. (Auto Workers Union); and the Boilermakers Union.

Visitation: Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be privately held at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. The American Legion Post #141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Memorials: South Hickory Hill Cemetery.
