Humphries Found Fit to Stand Trial

MT. VERNON — A Mt. Vernon Man facing robbery and hijacking charges was found to be mentally fit to stand trial in Jefferson County Court on Tuesday.

24-year-old Anthony Humphries allegedly stole a vehicle on March 7 by use and threat of force with a firearm. Humphries also allegedly stole a cellular device and candy.

Humphries, who is representing himself, faces charges of armed robbery, vehicular hijacking, and aggravated vehicular hijacking. Court reports indicated a fitness evaluation was ordered and then announced Tuesday that he is indeed fit to stand trial.

Humphries objected to the order, claiming the evaluation was filed more than 30 dates after the court order. The case was reset for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to attempt to find a resolution on the matter.

Court records also indicate that trial dates have already been set in the case even with Humphries objecting to the evaluation. Pre-trial is 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, while the trial itself is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 9:30 a.m.
