Marion County Court records show that 19-year-old James Powers, of Centralia, has been charged with Class X home invasion with a firearm, Class 1 aggravated discharge of a firearm, and Class 1 residential burglary.

Powers is facing the same charges as 18-year-old Bryce Bradley, of Belleville. Both men are accused of forcibly entering a home in the 900 block of East Broadway in Centralia just before midnight July 30, with the intent of robbing the resident.

Powers and Bradley are further accused of firing their weapons, with the resident returning fire. The resident is legally allowed to possess a firearm and none of the residents of the home were injured.

During the exchange of gunfire, two males with Powers and Bradley were struck – a 22-year-old in the abdomen and a 16-year-old in the groin. Both males were ultimately airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Bradley was arrested a short time later. His bail has been set at $75,000.

Bail for Powers has been set at $100,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with residents of the East Broadway home, to abstain from the use or possession of cannabis, drugs, or alcohol.

Powers was given time to hire a private attorney and was scheduled for an August 9 first appearance with counsel.
