(CARBONDALE, IL) — Two people are facing various charges following a report of gunshots being fired in the 200 block of North Wall Street early Sunday morning. According to a Carbondale Police report, officers went to the scene just after 4 a.m., and while they were there, a man – identified as Quinterius Murden – ran up to another man and struck him in the face with a closed fist. Murden was arrested and charged with battery and later transported to the Jackson County Jail. Murden’s actions caused a small disturbance, during which officers saw a person concealing property behind shrubbery and detained him. It was determined that the male, Nicoliest Brown, had concealed several bags containing a suspected controlled substance.  Brown was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver controlled substance and was later transported to the Jackson County Jail.  Some evidence was collected with regards to the initial gunshot call, but it appears to have been related to an incident that happened in the 400 block of East Sycamore Street around 3 a.m. Sunday. Officers were not able to find anyone who had information regarding who may have possessed or fired weapons during the incident. Then around 11:30 Sunday, officers spoke with a witness who indicated that a woman had been injured during the initial incident on East Sycamore Street, having received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the hand. The victim was identified and taken to an area hospital for treatment. The victim was interviewed, and claimed the gunshot injury did not occur in Carbondale. There was no evidence at the scene to confirm or refute this claim. Police continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with information should call Carbondale Police at 457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 549-COPS.
