(MT. VERNON, IL) — A second suspect has been formally charged with first degree murder in a fatal shooting from January 20th in Mt. Vernon. John Wells has been formally charged with the first degree murder in connection to the shooting that took the life of DeAndray Jackson. Wells is not yet in custody, but an arrest warrant has been issued. Last week, 18 year old Lekedrieon Russell was taken into custody on a first degree murder charge. Two other arrests have also been made related to the shooting, including 21-year-old Dantrez Brown and a 17-year-old youth who are both charged with obstructing justice. A bond of $3 million will be set upon the apprehension of Wells. If convicted, Wells is eligible for an extended prison term because a firearm was used in the commission of the alleged crime. This extension would result in a term of 25 years to natural life being added to the sentence.
