(MARION, IL) — A 65-year-old Obion, Tennessee man was killed Tuesday night when the semi-truck he was driving left Interstate 57 in Williamson County, resulting in part of the interstate being closed for several hours. The name of the driver is being withheld pending the notification of his family. According to the Illinois State Police, the driver was traveling southbound on Interstate 57 near milepost 51 when around 5:39 p.m., for unknown reasons, his truck left the right side of the roadway, went down a steep embankment, and struck several trees before coming to a rest. The driver was found to be fatally injured inside the truck tractor and was pronounced dead at the scene. The right lane of I-57 south at the crash scene was closed for several hours while the crash was under investigation and while the scene was cleaned and the semi removed. The crash remains under investigation.
