(MT. VERNON, IL) — A Mt. Vernon Teen has been charged with First Degree Murder in relation to a shooting on January 20th. Authorities have charged 18 year old Lekedrieon Russell in connection with the death of DeAndray Jackson. He is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center on $3 million bond. He’s accused of shooting Jackson while attempting to rob him in an alley in the 1800 block of Conger Avenue. Jackson, who was from California, was in Mt. Vernon visiting family at the time of his murder. At the time of his arrest for Jackson’s murder, Russell was in the fourth month of a 30 month probation sentence stemming from his June 2016 arrest in Mt. Vernon on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, no FOID card and possession of cannabis. Authorities with the Mt. Vernon Police Department are still searching for two subjects in reference to the investigation surrounding the murder. The subjects, 20 year old John F. Wells and 19 year old Lamar Williams Jr., both of Mt. Vernon, are currently “Persons of Interest” in the investigation, who are both wanted on warrants from unrelated cases. Earlier, 21 year old Dantrez Brown of Mt. Vernon and a 17 year old juvenile have been taken into custody by the Mt. Vernon Police Department in the investigation and have each been charged with obstructing justice. The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility, while Brown is incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center. Each are awaiting the setting of bond and first court appearances and each are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
