(EAST ST. LOUIS, IL) — A mother and her daughter were killed in an accident in St. Clair County Friday afternoon. According to the preliminary investigation but the Illinois State Police, the driver of a 2011 Impala was traveling westbound on St. Clair Ave at 79th street when Tamika Thornton, the driver of 1994 Chevy Suburban, attempted to turn north onto 79th street from St. Clair Ave at the traffic light and was struck by the westbound Impala. Thornton and the passenger, 12-year-old C’Mia Thomas were ejected. Thornton was transported to Saint Louis University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff. Thomas was transported to Touchette Hospital in Centreville where she was also pronounced deceased by medical staff. The driver of the Impala was transported to a Belleville area hospital in serious condition. This crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
