(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two Mt. Vernon residents are in the Jefferson County Jail following a traffic stop allegedly resulted in the discovery of heroin and cannabis in the vehicle. Deputy reports say 25-year-old Mary Krause, and 31-year-old Christopher Williams were arrested by state police and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on alleged drug charges. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:35 Thursday morning, their K-9 unit responded to assist an Illinois State trooper with a traffic stop at the intersection of Harmony Lane and Old Fairfield Road. K9 Tico reportedly alerted on the vehicle and a search revealed quantities of suspected heroin and marijuana. Krause and Williams remain in jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
