(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon Police Department arrested a Mt. Vernon man early Saturday on multiple charges after a foot pursuit ensued. At 1:50 Saturday morning, an officer with the MVPD attempted to stop a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver, 32 year old Joevon Taylor, continued driving for several blocks and then exited the vehicle and began running on foot. The officer began a lengthy foot pursuit of Taylor and observed him discarding numerous items as he ran. The officer was eventually able to take Taylor into custody. During an investigation officers located a loaded 9mm handgun, currency, and cannabis. Taylor was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, Resisting Arrest and Driving While License Suspended. He was also cited for Disobeying a Stop Sign, No Insurance and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol. Taylor was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set. Taylor is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
