(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon Police Department arrested five individuals in the robbery of a pizza delivery driver over the weekend.  Nineteen year old Omar Jackson of Mt. Vernon and 20 year old Demonteze Rozier of Springfield were both charged with Robbery and Mob Action. Both were incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set. A sixteen year old male was also charged with Robbery and Mob Action. He was incarcerated in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court date in Jefferson County. Two other juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were charged with Possession of Stolen Property. They were not able to be detained so they were released to their guardian. At 1:44 Sunday morning, officers of the Mt Vernon Police Department responded to a report of a robbery which had occurred in the 300 Block of North 5th Street in Mt Vernon. Initial dispatch reports indicated a pizza delivery driver had been robbed by several subjects. Officers made contact with the victim and began further investigating. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the robbery. During the investigation, the officers made contact with a person of interest which led them to a residence in the 300 block of North 6th street. The officers eventually made contact with several subjects at the residence and secured a Jefferson County search warrant for the residence. During a search of the residence, officers located property stolen during the robbery of the pizza delivery driver and additional property which was stolen during a previous robbery in Mt Vernon. Additional charges are possible. All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
