(MT. VERNON, IL) — A Breese man was involved in an alcohol-related crash in Jefferson County Sunday morning. According to Illinois State Police, 45-year-old Eddie A. McCandrew was driving his pickup truck east on I-64 at mile post 65 when he said he fell asleep around 8:40 a.m. McCandrew’s truck left the roadway and struck a tree. McCandrew suffered major non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was wearing a seatbelt. State Police charged McCandrew with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle and possession of cannabis.
