(Granite City, IL) — U.S. Steel is agreeing to cut pollution at three of its plants in the Midwest, including the one in Granite City that’s currently idled. The company has also agreed to pay two-point-two-million-dollars in penalties to resolve a federal suit claiming violations of the Clean Air Act at plants in Granite City, Gary, Indiana, and Ecorse, Michigan. In addition, the company will perform seven environmental projects to protect the health and environment in those communities.
