(BENTON, IL) — It looks like the Benton Police Department may get to move into its new home sooner than expected. When the city approved building a new police department on the former Scout Cabin site on West Washington Street in July, it was thought the facility would be ready sometime after the first of next year. But due to cooperative weather conditions, officials now say the police department could move from the old City Hall building on West Main to the new facility in January. The city was expected to spend around $300,000 on the new facility, but due to some increasing costs including a $29,000 generator that was recently approved; the final cost may run around $350,000 to $375,000 according to a report in the Benton Evening News. The new facility will have 3,400 square feet and is being built by Curt Erwin Construction of Benton.
