(Roxana, IL) — The current and past owners of an oil refinery along the Mississippi River in Roxana are agreeing to pay a penalty of one-hundred-25-thousand-dollars for dumping toxic waste into the river. The operators of the Wood River Refinery were found to have exceeded the allowable amounts of toxic substances like mercury, ammonia and fecal coliform to be flushed into the river. Also as part of the settlement, Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the owners have agreed to install new wastewater control systems.
