(SALEM, IL) — A 21-year-old Wamac man was arrested early Thursday morning, following a police pursuit that sped through a large area of Marion County. Destrian Doza has been charged in Marion County Court with felony aggravated fleeing and misdemeanor resisting police. Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit of Doza, which reportedly started in Salem after police received a report from Doza’s girlfriend that he didn’t have permission to be driving her car and that she wanted to report the vehicle stolen. A Salem police officer spotted Doza and the vehicle a short time later and attempted to make a traffic stop. Doza reportedly failed to pull over and started a low-speed pursuit through the streets of Salem, failing to stop at two stop signs. The pursuit wound through Salem, along Green Street Road, crossed U.S. 51, and ended when Doza crashed the car into a tree near where West Green Street Road turns into West Junction Street in Central City. After crashing the car, Doza attempted to flee on foot, crossing a nearby creek. He was taken into custody around 12:15 a.m. Law enforcement officers with Salem, Central City, Centralia, Wamac and Sandoval police departments were involved in the pursuit, as well as deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries were reported. Doza is currently on probation out of Clinton County, after an earlier probation sentence was revoked on a 2014 conviction for two counts felony possession of a controlled substance.
