(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — West Frankfort city leaders will be joined by Congressman Mike Bost, State Rep. John Bradley and State Senator Gary Forby for a groundbreaking ceremony to officially recognize the launch of the mitigation project for the West Frankfort Waste Water Treatment Plant Friday morning. The event will start at 9 at West Frankfort City Hall located at 110 N. Jefferson St. Construction is currently underway on the new facility located on Route 37 just north of the current waste water treatment facility. The current facility has been affected by flooding over the years and moving it to higher ground will protect the sewage treatment process from future flood-related disruptions. The city received just over $6.4 million in hazard mitigation grant program funds from FEMA in March of 2014 for the project. The city is contributing around $2.1 million.
