Edward Lowell “Ed” Stevens of Ina passed away at 4:00 A.M. Friday morning July 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He had attained the age of 86 Years 6 months and 11 days.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on January 18, 1930, the son of Oscar Elijah & Anna Mae (Oakley) Stevens. He married Carolyn Sue (Deason) on October 24, 1954 and she survives. They would have celebrated 62 years this year.
He was a member & a Trustee of the Ina Free WIll Baptist Church. He was a retired Coal Miner. In the coal mines initally he was a roof bolter. He was then a Mine Examiner and then Mine Manager. He trained many miners and was respected by them. He was a former member and past President of the Ina Ruritan Club. He operated a Shell filling station in Ina and he loved model airplanes. He was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1951-1953. He was a former Ina Village Board Member serving for 35 years. He bred AKC registered Golden Retrievers for over 30 years.

Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his Parents, by a Son-James Edward Stevens, by 3 Brothers-Willis & wife Helen, Junior & wife Virginia “Jinny”, Rev. Paul Elijah & wife Frances, 1 Sister-Betty & husband Butch and Nephew-Michael & Maryann Stevens.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday August 1st at the Ina Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Clyatt, Bro. David Shores, Bro. Brad Ryan & Bro. David Burgess officiating. Burial with Military Rites by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 will be in the KIrk Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Ina Free Will Baptist Church.
In lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to Welch College or to the Ina Free WIll Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Church or at the Johnston Funeral Home at any time.
