(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Illinois State Police released information about a traffic crash with injuries on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County yesterday. According to a release, a 2007 Hyundai Accent driven by Cynthia Brackens of Carbondale was traveling north on I-57 when the car drifted off the road, overcorrected and then overturned. Brackens and a passenger Mary Drake of Carbondale suffered major injuries. Brackens injuries were described as serious but non-life threatening, while Drake suffered major, life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to St. Louis University Trauma Center. Two other juvenile passengers were not injured. All occupants of the vehicle were properly restrained.
