(SALEM, IL) — A 46-year-old Salem man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Marion County Court to an amended charge of felony meth manufacturing, in exchange for other charges against him being dismissed. Andrew Butler filed an open plea of guilty to Class 1 felony manufacture of less than 15 grams of methamphetamine, in exchange for a Class X charge of aggravated meth manufacturing being amended and for other meth-related felony charges against him. A motion to reduce bail was denied. Butler has been held in the Marion County Jail with bail set at $250,000 since his January arrest following a traffic stop by Salem police for disregarding a stop sign. Officers ultimately searched the vehicle and discovered methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Butler was taken to the Marion County Jail, and a subsequent search of his home resulted in a meth lab and other meth-related items being discovered, and a second person, 34-year-old Christina M. Bender, of Salem, was also arrested and is still facing charges. Four children between the ages of 8 and 14 were reportedly in the home at the time meth was being made. An open plea of guilt has no sentencing agreement. Butler is scheduled for a July 20 sentencing following the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation. A Class 1 felony is punishable by between 4 and 15 years in prison.
