(DIX, IL) — A pool company in Dix was destroyed by fire Monday morning, with multiple fire agencies responding to fight the blaze. Flames were showing at Royal Fiberglass Pool when the call came in just before 9:30 Monday morning. People as far as Addieville, Hoyleton, and Salem reported seeing the large plume of smoke coming from the fire. Crews from several departments were called to battle the flames at the facility on Duncan Lane. The building was completely engulfed when they arrived. It took about two hours to get the fire under control. Officials say the blaze began in the pump room after a spark ignited some resin. Sixteen people work at the facility; all were able to get out safely. The loss is estimated at more than $1 million. Firefighters from Jefferson Fire Protection District, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, Kell Fire Department, Irvington Fire Department, Salem Fire Protection District, Centralia Fire Protection District, and Webber Township Fire Protection District, along with Litton Ambulance, Jefferson County EMA, Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, EPA, and Red Cross all responded to the scene.
