(CARLYLE, IL) — A charge of felony battery of a pregnant person was filed Tuesday in Clinton County Court against a 21-year-old Central City man in connection with an alleged incident last month. Jacob Schleuter has remained in the Marion County Jail with bail set at $30,000 since his arrest March 12 on four counts Class 2 felony burglary for alleged burglaries to motor vehicles in the Marion County portion of Centralia. But prior to Schleuter’s arrest, Centralia police responded to a call from the Clinton County portion of Centralia on a report of domestic battery after Schleuter reportedly kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach and said he wanted the baby to die because he didn’t want to be a dad. The woman reportedly declined medical attention at the time saying that while the kick hurt, she didn’t believe it wasn’t hard enough to require it. However, Schleuter had reportedly left items at the woman’s home that he had allegedly taken in recent vehicle burglaries. He was arrested at another home where he was allegedly obtaining K-2. Schleuter reportedly told police he broke in to the vehicles with a friend after they had smoked K-2. All the vehicles entered were reportedly left unlocked. Wallets, a navigation system, tools and other items were recovered. In addition to charges being filed Tuesday in Clinton County Court on the battery charge, Schleuter appeared in Marion County Court on the burglary charges. His defense counsel filed a motion for Schleuter to be sentenced to problem solving court and the case is next scheduled for a pre-trial hearing May 10.
