(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two individuals wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Kentucky were arrested Friday after a report of theft at an Ina truck stop.  Joseph Cunningham and Kristy Keener were the occupants of a vehicle pulled over by authorities and were taken into custody. At approximately 3:36 a.m., The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call about shoplifters at Love’s Truck Stop in Ina. The vehicle had left Northbound on Interstate 57. Jefferson County Deputies, A Deputy and Trooper located the vehicle in the Mt. Vernon area and initiated a traffic stop. Inside the vehicle, officers found guns and evidence of other crimes. Jefferson County Detectives were called to the scene. Illinois State Police, and Mt. Vernon Police Department were also in the area to look for the suspect vehicle. Detectives were able to link the subjects to a homicide in Marshall County, Kentucky and an arson case in McCracken County Ky. The two are being held in the Jefferson County Justice Center on local charges and a no bond warrant from Kentucky. The two face local charges of Retail Theft, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Local Bond is set at $250,000. More charges may follow after Kentucky authorities conclude their investigations.
