(HARRISBURG, IL) — A Harrisburg doctor made his first court appearance Monday in Saline County in connection with the alleged murder of his estranged wife, Carla Burns of Marion. Brian Burns was arrested last Wednesday morning after an investigation into his wife’s disappearance. Carla Burns was reported missing by family and friends on March 10, the same day a scheduled motion hearing was set in divorce proceedings filed by Carla Burns against Brian Burns. Brian Burns was charged Thursday in Saline County Court with two counts of first-degree murder and one count Class 3 felony concealment of a homicidal death for allegedly shooting Carla Burns, burning her body and scattering her ashes. The discovery of remains believed to be those of Carla Burns were found during a search last Tuesday night and Wednesday morning on property in the Mitchellsville area of Saline County. Burns did not enter a plea during his court appearance. He said he will hire his own attorney. Burns is set to appear again in court for his preliminary hearing on April 7. He remains lodged in the Saline County Jail on $1 million bond.
