(MT. VERNON, IL) — An early Thursday morning collision sent four individuals to local hospitals. A vehicle driven by 48 year old Michael L. Galloway of Benton was approaching the railroad crossing on Illinois Route 142 west of Shawnee Street when he noticed that the railroad lights were activated. A vehicle driven by 52 year old Kevin Ray Phillips of Mulkeytown was in front of the Galloway vehicle and also approached the crossing, when the Phillips vehicle stopped for the warning lights. The Galloway vehicle sped up and collided with the Phillips vehicle sending both vehicles through the crossing. Both drivers, a passenger in the Phillips vehicle, 54 year old Kevin Nix of Royalton, and a passenger in the Galloway vehicle, 23 year old Michael Dakota Lee Galloway of Benton, were transported from the scene to the hospital.
