(Mt. Vernon) — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce announced its annual awards Thursday morning at a special ceremony.

Retired Longtime Mt. Vernon Township High School Guidance Counselor Robert Brown was selected as Citizen of the Year. Mike Tyler, owner/operator to Tyler Toyota and Tyler’s Buick-GMC was chosen as the Small Business Person of the Year. The Young Professional of the Year is Holly Kruep, President and CEO of Roll n Up Smoke Shop and Liquor with the President’s Award posthumously honoring Russell Stewart, an oil and gas executive.

The Chamber also announced annual education awards and grants on Thursday. Students of the Year are Mt. Vernon Township High School’s Michael Wright and Waltonville High School’s Shanae Jones.

Mt. Vernon’s Megan Jordan has been awarded the Rend Lake College Scholarship while classroom grants are going to: Mt. Vernon Primary Center teachers Kevin McGreer and Kelsei Greer; Webber Township High School’s Kim Smith; and St. Mary’s Ranzie Callahan.

All award winners will be honored at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner on Friday, April 1st.
