(BENTON, IL) — A Carbondale man recently pled guilty in federal court on a cocaine offense. Acting U.S. Attorney James Porter says 35-year-old Ryan L. Gibbs pled guilty to a one-count indictment charging possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Porter says evidence at the plea hearing established that Gibbs was in possession of a large amount of cocaine during an Illinois Department of Corrections compliance check at Gibbs’s home in Carbondale on Sept. 16 of last year. The cocaine offense carries a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison, to be followed by three years’ supervised release, and a fine of $1,000,000. Gibbs is currently being held without bond pending sentencing set for March 22.
