(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon police are investigating a Saturday night armed robbery of a local video store. According to reports, officers responded around 11 p.m. Saturday to Family Video in the 1600 block of Broadway, on a report of an armed robbery. Reports indicate a male subject wearing a red masked robbed the store and fled eastbound on foot. No further details are available at this time. The armed robbery came just one day after an armed robbery in Centralia of People’s National Bank at Broadway and North Elm Street. Suspects in that robbery are described as two black males, one wearing a blue hoodie and both wearing bandannas over their faces. They reportedly indicated they had a weapon exited the east doors of the bank with an undetermined amount of money. It’s believed they fled north from the bank, as a small amount of cash was found on the ground near St. Mary Catholic School. A bank customer in the drive-thru contacted police early Friday morning to report seeing a black male standing in the bank with something over his face. Police responded to the bank within moments of receiving the call and a subsequent alarm call from the bank, but the suspects had already fled.
