Wamac Man Arrested In Domestic Battery Incident Has Bail Set

(SALEM, IL) — Bail has been set at $25,000 for a 49-year-old Wamac man who was charged Monday in Marion County Court with an alleged domestic battery incident over the weekend. James Groff was charged Monday in Marion County Court with Class 2 felony aggravated domestic battery including the use of strangling, and Class 3 felony aggravated unlawful restraint, as police report he was sitting on top of the alleged victim and choking her when they arrived on the scene. The woman alleged that Groff had struck her with a phone when she tried to call 9-1-1 for help. Groff was appointed a public defender to represent him in this case and was scheduled for a December 15 preliminary hearing.
