WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL – A Carterville man accused of shooting at a Cambria Police officer Monday night has been arrested following an all-night search by Illinois State Police along with police and sheriff’s deputies from Jackson and Williamson counties. Police say 23-year-old Billy J. Jearlds was found around 7:45 Tuesday morning not far from where the shooting took place on Sycamore Road just west of Cambria Road on the south side of Cambria. He was arrested without incident. Around 10:45 last night, an officer in that area approached Jearlds, who was on foot. Soon afterward, Jearlds fled the scene on foot into the woods nearby. As he fled, Jearlds shot in the direction of the officer. The officer returned fire and was not hurt in the incident. No injuries were reported.
