(East St. Louis, IL) — After more than a year without a contract and more than three years without a raise, teachers in East St. Louis say they’re ready to walk out October 1st. The Illinois Federation of Teachers says the district’s negotiating team hasn’t responded to the union’s latest counter-offer and it’s not clear when they will. A spokeswoman for District 189 refused to comment on the negotiations, but the union says if there’s no deal by the end of the month, teachers will strike.
