(BENTON, IL) — The Benton City Council decided Monday night that it was time to remove two-hour parking on the Benton Square. Council members came to their decision after many store owners on the square complained that they were losing money because customers couldn’t find a parking place. They also told the council local residents were staying parked in those parking places past the time limit. The city will remove the parking signs and those telling drivers they will be towed if found in violation of the time limit. The city will be putting into place 15 minute loading zones on the corners of the square for drop-offs and deliveries. And the no parking restrictions will stay in place overnight with towing to be enforced for violators.
