(East St. Louis, IL) — East St. Louis’ mayor is issuing a warning about layoffs. Emeka Jackson-Hicks said in a Sunday news conference that layoffs are possible in every city department as the city faces a five-point-seven-million-dollar-budget deficit. Jackson-Hicks, who took the office in May, says her administration has found mismanagement of city resources but didn’t elaborate. She says the budget deficit could also mean city employees don’t get paid.
