(Metropolis, IL) — A chemical leak was reported at the Honeywell plant in Metropolis Saturday night. Company spokesperson Peter Dalpe says just after six, the plant declared an alert and notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Authorities say after eight the leak was stopped. They say no one was injured and no signs of impact to the area were found. Dalpe says plant personnel are working to determine how much material was released and the plant will conduct a thorough investigation of the incident. The plant produces Uranium hexafluoride, which is used in the uranium enrichment process that produces fuel for nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.
