(CARTERVILLE, IL) — A Marion man was killed in an accident involving a car and a SUV on eastbound Route 13 at Samuel Road in Carterville Wednesday afternoon. Williamson County Coroner Junior Burke says 31-year-old David L. Lyerla was pronounced dead shortly before 1 at the scene of the accident that happened around 12:15 p.m. Burke says Lyerla was a front seat passenger in a car that was on Samuel Road crossing westbound Route 13 heading south when the car was struck by an eastbound SUV driven by 41-year-old Keri E. Clark of Carterville. Clark suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Jeremy A. McGee of Marion, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. He was then flown to a regional hospital. A 3-month-old boy riding in McGee’s car suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, then flown to a regional hospital. McGee’s other passenger, 20-year-old Tommi L. Burnett of Marion, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. McGee was cited for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection. Illinois State Police say more charges are possible against McGee pending investigation.
