(CHRISTOPHER, IL) — Here’s an update regarding the investigation into the death of a Christopher man early Sunday morning. Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler said Wednesday that preliminary autopsy results on 51-year-old Steven C. Berkley revealed pulmonary edema and congestion due to clinical excited delirium, suspected to be caused by some form of illegal drug substance. Leffler says the final cause of death will not be revealed until toxicology reports are compiled and then the final autopsy results will be available. The toxicology reports may not be available for four to six weeks and a couple more weeks before the final pathologist report is completed. Christopher Police were called to the home on Egyptian Drive around 4 a.m. Sunday regarding a person needing a psychiatric evaluation. When officers arrived, they found Berkley. He was taken by ambulance to Franklin Hospital where he died a little over an hour later. Illinois State Police continue to investigate.
