(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — A West Frankfort police officer killed in a motorcycle crash Friday will be laid to rest today. The Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort says funeral services for 53-year-old Jeffrey Reed of West Frankfort will be held at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Tower Heights Cemetery. Reed, who was operating the motorcycle, crashed at the intersection of Route 149 and Sunnyslope Street in West Frankfort around 12:30 Friday morning. Reed, along with his passenger, 31-year-old Nichole Krantz of West Frankfort, were both thrown from the bike after Reed failed to make the curve, struck the curb across the westbound lane and lost control crashing. They suffered major injuries and were taken to Herrin Hospital, then flown to St. Louis area hospitals. Reed died from his injuries. Members of Krantz’s family told WSIL-TV that she will have to have reconstructive surgery to her face and brain.
