(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon city council held a workshop discussing the 2015-2016 fiscal year on Tuesday. One of the subjects was the projected numbers for the Tax Increment Finance (TIF) funds for the fiscal year. The TIF funds are expected to be over budget by $29,052.33. The expected loss could be lessened if buildings using TIF funds increased their EAV in means such as: adding onto the original property, or bringing a condemned building up to regulations. Also in TIF- related news, the city council discussed the redevelopment of south 10th street after the destruction of the townhomes, which are in the Downtown TIF district. The townhomes are scheduled to be demolished soon, and the council is looking into potential investments to the area. Also on Tuesday night, the Mt. Vernon city council discussed the possibility of two construction projects coming to the Summersville area, The first of the resurfacing of Old Fairfield Rd. from Route 15 to Stinson Rd. The project is in an annual rotation of other projects being controlled by IDOT. The total project would cost $889,830.40, but the city would need to provide $201,966.08. If the project is not taken, the project will have to wait for its turn again in the rotation by IDOT, The other potential project is the adding more sidewalks and close steep ditches on Airport Rd. and Marteeny St. The council discussed this possibility due to the hazardous conditions of the road children use to walk to Summersville Grade School.
