(East St. Louis, IL) — An East St. Louis organization has promised to fight for their kids after a lack of state funding threatens to close their doors. The budget cuts would affect the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House and other after-school programs statewide. Program official Vera Jones told KSDK-TV that she received a letter telling her to shut down the facility because their state funds were being slashed. She says because she’s getting funding from the United Way and area churches she doesn’t plan to close her doors. The Lessie Bates Davis House is asking the public to show their support by writing to Governor Rauner’s office.
