(MT. VERNON, IL) — The citizens of Mt. Vernon have spoken and have elected two new city council members via Tuesday’s election. Unofficial results have awarded the two seats to Donte Moore with 1,062 votes and Jeff May with 1,037 votes. Challenger Teresa Clark had 886 votes and Steven Casper had 424 votes. Ina voted in a new village trustee in Terry Connor, who had 73 unofficial votes. Eric Wolf placed 2nd in the race with 50, with Walter Grimes and Mitch Marlow close behind with 48 and 44 votes respectively. Balloters voted for the public safety tax, which received over 700 more “yes” votes than “no” votes. Also determined at Tuesday’s election were school board seats for 6 area school districts as well as questions regarding two school districts.
