(East St. Louis, IL) — An East St. Louis man has been sentenced a second time for his role in a brutal attack and kidnapping in 2012. Jevon Jenkins, now 25, was part of a crew that assaulted a Cahokia man because they believed he was a burglar. They beat the man, threatened to maim him, put a gun to his head and a firecracker in his mouth and poured gasoline on him before he was able to escape. Jenkins was originally sentenced to 14 years, but during his appeal the state Supreme Court struck down the state law on aggravated use of a weapon. With that conviction subtracted, Jenkins was sentenced today to eleven years in prison.
